Beirut, February 17th, 2010- Beirut based Clemenceau Medical Center (CMC) affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHMI) hosted today the second “Women’s Health Symposium”, providing the latest updates in Breast cancer evaluation and treatment. The event associated with a media induction session was held in the hospital’s premises, with the participation of renowned international and local experts.
“Based on the tremendous success of the previously held Women’s Health Symposium, we have come to recognize the necessity to revisit this broad theme of breast cancer in another symposium with more breakthroughs and recommendations from the world’s best experts of Johns Hopkins International”, said Dr. Mounes Kalaawi, Chief Executive Officer of CMC hospital.
This event comes on the 4th anniversary of CMC, and is one of a long list of achievements that makes CMC one of the most highly regarded hospitals in the region after just four years. Hosting this specialized symposium annually is part of “CMC’s commitment to improve the quality of health care in Lebanon and the region and to be at the forefront of the healthcare innovation always supported by the expertise of our peers at Johns Hopkins ”, explained Dr. Kalaawi, “especially that the health & wellness of women is one of the hospital’s prime missions”.
The Symposium recommendations were pertinent to controversial issues in breast imaging and best screening, High risk patients, and patients with advanced cancer without metastasis. Most importantly, this symposium addressed patient own experience with breast cancer, for that the symposium hosted as a main speaker the breast cancer survivor Lilly Shockney, Administrative Director of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center, who shared her journey with this disease through a victorious approach.
In conclusion the latest in the world about breast cancer is being brought to Beirut at Clemenceau in one symposium. The symposium gathered local and Johns Hopkins Medicine International specialists in Radiology, Oncology, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Breast Surgery, and Nursing care. As well as attendees from top Lebanese hospitals and from the Lebanese Cancer Society, Lebanese Society of General Surgery, Lebanese Society of Medical Oncology, Lebanese Society of Obstetrics & Gynecology. It is a platform that facilitated the know-how exchange between practitioners, thus encouraging the academically-driven innovations in clinical service, medical education and research-a role CMC assumes to play for the region.
بيروت ، في 17 فبراير (شباط) 2010 : استضاف مركز كليمنصو الطبي (CMC)بالتعاون مع "جونز هوبكنز" اليوم فعاليات مؤتمره السنوي الثاني حول "صحة المرأة"، الذي كشف النقاب عن آخر المستجدات حول كيفية تشخيص سرطان الثدي وعلاجه. شارك في الحدث الذي عقد في مقر المستشقى في بيروت كبار الخبراء المحليين والدوليين بحضور حشد من الإعلاميين.
وحول الموضوع، قال الدكتور مؤنس قلعاوي، الرئيس التنفيذي لمركز كليمنصو الطبي ورئيس قسم الجراحة: "نظراً للنجاح والفائدة الذي شهدهما المؤتمر السنوي الأول حول "صحة المرأة"، أدركنا الحاجة إلى إعادة البحث في قضية سرطان الثدي في مؤتمر آخر يلقي الضوء على المزيد من المستجدات ليخلص إلى مجموعة من التوصيات على يد أفضل الخبراء المحليين والعالميين من جامعة جونز هوبكنز".
وتتزامن هذه المبادرة مع مرور أربع سنوات على افتتاح مركز كليمنصو الطبي، وتندرج ضمن قائمة طويلة من الإنجازات التي تجعل منه أحد أكثر المستشفيات تقديراً في المنطقة خلال فترة قصيرة من تاريخ إنشائه. كما تصب استضافة هذا المؤتمر الطبي سنوياً في إطار "التزام المركز تجاه لبنان والمنطقة بتعزيز نوعية الرعاية الصحية، لنكون في الطليعة دائماً من حيث الابتكار والامتياز، كما التعليم الطبي المستمر"، على حد تعبير الدكتور قلعاوي الذي أضاف: "إن صحة المرأة تتصدر قائمة أولوياتنا في مركز كليمنصو الطبي".
خلص المؤتمر إلى توصيات تتعلق بقضايا حول أفضل سبل التصوير الرقمي للثدي، والمرضى الأكثر عرضة لهذا المرض، والمرضى الذين يعانون من السرطان في مراحله المتقدمة من دون إنتشاره إلى أجزاء الجسم الأخرى. كما تضمن المؤتمر استضافة ليلي شوكنيه لتكون أحد المتحدثين الرئيسيين، وهي مديرة مركز أفون لأمراض وجراحة الثدي في جونز هوبكنز. وقد عرضت تجربتها مع المرض مشاركةً الحضور في رحلة انتصارها عليه.
جمع المؤتمر، بالإضافة إلى أخصائيي المركز، أخصائيين من جامعة ومستشفى جونز هوبكنز في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية في علوم الأشعة والأورام وأمراض النساء والتوليد، وجراحة الثدي، والرعاية التمريضية. هذا فضلاً عن الحضور الكثيف من الأطباء والأخصائيين اللبنانيين وبمشاركة من جمعية مكافحة السرطان، والجمعية اللبنانية للجراحة العامة، والجمعية اللبنانية لأطباء الأورام الخبيثة، والجمعية اللبنانية للطب النسائي. وقد كان المؤتمر بمثابة فرصة مهمة لتبادل الخبرات بين الأطباء، وبالتالي الإطلاع والإستفادة من الابتكارات وطرق العلاج الحديثة القائمة على البحوث العلمية.
