What is diarrhea?

 

* You feel changes in your bowel movements and
Pass unusually loose stools
*Have frequent bowel movements

 

What are the causes and symptoms
of diarrhea?

 

 

Cause

Symptoms

Viral (gastroenteritis)

Nausea, vomiting, watery diarrhea,
fever, aches.1-3 days

Bacterial infection

Diarrhea, fever, chills, sometimes
blood or mucus in the stools.
Vomiting less common.

Food intolerance

Bloating, gas, cramps

Emotional distress

Cramping, loose stools

What are the treatment Modalities?

Prevent dehydration

•Do not eat raw or rare meat and
fish.
•have broth or soups (contain
sodium)
•Vegetables, which contain
potassium (banana).

Avoid eating raw or undercooked meats

Watch What You Drink ? !

How to prepare ORS?

1-Wash hands with soap
and water before preparing
solution.

2-Put 1 liter of clean
water in a clean pot.

3-Empty the contents of a
packet of ORS into the
water while stirring.

4-Give the sick child as mush
of the solution it needs in
small amounts frequently
