Why is the Department of Ophthalmology unique at CMC?

CMC is a modern facility equipped with the finest and most advanced technology in the ophthalmology eye clinic exam rooms, laser vision correction suite as well as operating room.
This equipment is used by staff who are locally and internationally renowned and trained in top Ophthalmology departments in the world.
These also train doctors locally and around the world and continue to lecture and teach across major meetings.

The clinics are equipped with state-of-the art slitlamp with integrated digital anterior segment photography.
The ancillary testing include the IOL Master (www.zeissinstruments.com), one of the most advanced machines to accurately measure the power of an intraocular lens implant used in cataract surgery.
The corneal topography is an essential unit for a cornea practice and laser evaluation.
The Humphrey visual field machine allows detection of any visual field change related to glaucoma or a neurologic problem. Software variations allow us to obtain tests that are faster and allow more cooperation from older patients.

The laser suite is equipped with the most advanced laser technology including the VISX STAR S4 excimer laser and its aberrometer the WaveScan. This allows us to treat patients with wavefront technology (www.visx.com) .

The femtosecond laser is one of the finest and most sought after lasers to create incisions of the eye without cutting the eye (www.intralase.com) . Not only does it create LASIK flaps without using a blade but it can also perform perfect shapes for cornea transplantation surgery. This allows better and quicker healing.

Our doctors have studied this technology at its budding stage and have helped with its commercial approval in the US and continue to teach medical doctors and technicians around the world on how to best use this technology.

The operating theater houses modern facilities and is equipped with the most sophisticated microscopes and instrumentation.
