Cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects the body causing glands to produce an excess of thick secretions and mucus. Examples of these secretions include sweat, tears, digestive juices and mucus. The most characteristic lung symptom of CF is the excessive production of thick, sticky mucus in the airways. This leads to airway obstruction, inflammation and repeated infections. Management of this condition includes a careful evaluation by your doctor followed by multiple tests including specific blood tests, cultures, and lung function testing. Treatment includes regular exercise (physiotherapy), proper diet, and specific medications including carefully selected antibiotics
