Allergy & Immunology

Allergy and immunology specialists are trained in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of disorders involving the immune system. At the CMC, American practice standards are employed to evaluate and to treat allergic conditions, ranging from sinuses to food allergies to drug allergies.

An expertly performed evaluation for allergic and other conditions mimicking allergy is the key step for proper diagnosis. Examples of diagnosis tests include nasal smear testing, serum-specific IgE testing and other allergy/immunology laboratory testing, and lung function testing.

In addition, we ensure initial and continuous patient education is employed using regularly updated information and resources.

Treatment modalities vary from simple avoidance measures and medications to advanced immunomodulating treatments such as allergen immunotherapy and anti-IgE antibody therapy.

Since allergic conditions affect several organ systems with other medical services in the hospital, coordination and consultation with the Pulmonary and Otolaryngology services is particularly important when dealing with conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis/sinusitis.
